Good to know

The inspiration for this rustic cottage is the beautiful barns you see out in our farmlands. We sourced 100+ year old, local barnwood and finished it with a rustic, red, metal roof. Voila, the Red Roof Retreat was born! Step onto the charming front porch of complete with a porch swing and two classic rocking chairs—a peaceful spot to enjoy your morning coffee or a good book. Out back, you’ll find a spacious wood deck with aTraeger grill, perfect for barbecuing, relaxing, and watching the sunset over the mountains. Enjoy meals outdoors at the shaded dining area featuring a table with an umbrella, nestled beside fresh herb planters you’re welcome to snip from. Guests are also welcome to pick seasonal fruits from our small orchard when ripe (they are a little small now)! You’ll also love the fully fenced yard, giving your pets the freedom to roam safely while you relax nearby. Inside, every door is 36" and the open and fully accessible, great room welcomes you with a bright, airy layout ideal for relaxing or spending quality time together. The living area includes a couch that converts into a full-size bed, providing flexible sleeping arrangements for additional guests. The fully equipped kitchen features a roll under sink and induction cook top, and opens into the living and dining area, making meals and memories easy to share. The first bedroom is a cheerful bunk room that sleeps 3 with a twin-over-full bunk bed and includes a creative area with a desk, toys, games, and art supplies—a haven for kids or work area for adults. The second bedroom features a queen Murphy bed, dedicated workspace (once lifted), and a vanity/makeup nook, combining function and charm for the perfect adult retreat. The large bathroom includes a rustic brick, roll-in shower with a built-in bench. Along with a roll under sink and toilet with grab bars, offering extra comfort and accessibility. A washer/dryer combo unit is also available for your convenience during longer stays. After a day at the nearby lake or river (which are only 2 miles away), gather around the outdoor firepit to toast marshmallows and watch the stars. Whether you're traveling as a family, a couple, or a small group, the Red Roof Retreat is a peaceful home base for relaxation, connection, and adventure! Our property is conveniently located just a few minutes walk, from Kern Valley Plaza, where you will find a variety of shops and a few local restaurants- perfect for picking up essentials or enjoying a casual meal. The plaza is easily walkable, making it a great option for guests who enjoy exploring on foot and want to stay close to local conveniences.

Other Details to Note

The Red Roof Retreat is located in the beautiful Sequoia National Forest area so for safety reasons, the firepit should not be used on high wind days due to fire risk. Please help us keep the area safe and follow any posted fire safety notices during your stay. Wood for firepit will be provided at 1 bundle per night booked. Pull through drive way with space for small RVs or boats. Every door is 36" wide. If you require the portable lift, please request ahead of your stay so we can make sure it is in the unit and fully charged. “This property is not located near the General Sherman Tree in Sequoia National Park. It is about 45 minutes from the Trail of 100 Giants in the Sequoia National Forest.” Seasonal Power Safety Shutoffs During the summer months, our mountain community may experience Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) issued by Southern California Edison (SCE). These temporary outages may occur during periods of high winds, low humidity, and elevated wildfire danger to help reduce the risk of wildfires. While power shutoffs are not common, they are possible during your stay and are beyond our control. If a PSPS event is expected, we will do our best to notify you as soon as we receive updates. Cell phone service may also become limited or intermittent if nearby cellular towers lose power or become congested. Cable and internet providers may experience service interruptions as well. We recommend bringing portable battery packs to keep phones and other essential devices charged, especially during the summer wildfire season. These precautionary shutoffs are implemented by Southern California Edison to help protect lives, property, and the surrounding Kern River Valley from catastrophic wildfires. We appreciate your understanding, as these events are outside of our control but play an important role in keeping our community safe.
